What is a “nui”?
The word “nui” (ぬい) is short for “nuigurumi” (ぬいぐるみ), which directly translates to stuffed boy or stuffed animal. They are a common piece of merchandise for a lot of Japanese series to produce.
Collecting and bringing along a nui of your favorite character is a big part of oshikatsu (推し活) culture. It’s essentially fan culture, supporting your favorite person or thing. It’s not uncommon to see fans on social media dressing up their nuis or taking them out for coffee dates!

Our Story
Our story starts with our founder, Bea, who loved collecting Japanese dolls and plushes. It was easy to get merch of more well-known franchises shipped directly by manufacturers. However, fans of more niche franchises were left in the dark, often resorting to using sketchy proxy services.
That’s where Nui Haven got its start. Specializing in lesser-known Japanse franchises, Nui Haven accumulates products and makes the buying and delivery process easy for Western consumers! We hope to bring you joy through nuis and other merch pieces ♡
Reflection
I mean all of this affectionately, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a stronger love-hate relationship with a project ever in my life. WordPress and WooCommerce are very powerful tools indeed, but sometimes things didn’t go as planned and I would heavily consider starting things over. Fortunately I didn’t do that!
For some reason, many elements were not able to be adjusted through the WordPress editor and neither through the Elementor editor. So I had to tediously inspect a lot of elements (mostly buttons) and apply custom CSS to them. Also, a lot of my products would end up getting messed up somehow while I was working on my site, like some images would get deleted without me touching anything. It was definitely annoying, but at the end of the day I think this is my best website yet. I’m pretty proud of how I got (mostly) everything to look the way I wanted it to.
I still think it’s a little rough around the edges, nothing I would release for a commercial project. But for my very first attempt I am insanely relieved it even works in the first place!
Also, just something extra I waned to point out: I ended up making the image carousel on the front page with bootstrap. I liked how much more control to control the images and the text on it in HTML.
